[Animal Experiment]-Fudan University confirmed that red light affects sleep in mice

Professor Huang Zhili of the National Institute of Medical Neurobiology of Fudan University and the research team led by the Institute of Brain Science of Fudan University, Fu, found that red light with different illuminance has different effects on the sleep and wakeful behavior of mice.

This achievement provides a basis for accurately setting the lighting parameters of night lighting in night animal experiments, and more reliably obtains medical experimental data. At the same time, it provides important guidance for the development and application of home health light sources at night. The research results have recently been published online in the international journal "Light: Science and Applications".

In order to solve the causal relationship between the intensity of red light and sleep in mice, Huang Zili led a scientific research team to conduct a detailed study and found that the amount of red light (international lighting) with 20 lux illuminance can be greatly increased, just like the control group The same as the white light. The amount of sleep in mice interferes with its sleep structure. When the intensity of red light is reduced to 10 lux, short-term or long-term irradiation with red light will not significantly affect the amount of sleep and sleep structure of mice, but white light can still induce sleep in mice.

The research results show that if you need to study the mouse and implement lighting at night, you should choose a red light with an illumination of 10 lux or less. This makes it easier for the experimenter to operate and avoids the influence of light on the mouse’s sleep and wake-up behavior. .. The research also recommends that when designing home health light sources at night, use red light less than 10 lux, so as not to interfere with people's sleep and wakefulness and clearly see the surrounding environment recommendations.
