Purpose: To select suitable materials to prepare balloons for abdominal
wall retraction reflex experiments.
Method: Use digital display calipers and X-ray images to measure different
airbag diameters at different pressures, and use the 3-point pain threshold as a
guideline to test whether the pressure value of the rat is caused by obvious
visceral pain.
Result: The diameter of the round latex balloon changes uniformly and
slowly as the pressure value increases, filling the pressure range commonly used
in experiments (20-80mmHg). The threshold of causing visceral pain in rats is
close to the harmful stimulus value. Cause irreversible damage to the intestines
of rats.
Conclusion: Round latex balloons are very suitable for abdominal
contraction reflex experiments.
