[Animal experiment] The effect of -20Hz square wave and sine wave flash on the eyeball development of guinea pigs

Objective: To evaluate the effects of continuous high frequency sine wave and square wave stroboscopic on emmetropia and eye development in guinea pigs.

Method: 30 2-week-old guinea pigs were divided into 3 groups (n = 10), 20 Hz square wave, 20 Hz sine stroboscope group, and no flicker control group (n = 10). The light intensity is uniformly 500lx. The refractive power of the eyes of the guinea pigs was measured every 2 weeks, and the axial length and the radius of curvature of the guinea pigs were examined by electrophysiological flash electroretinogram (F-ERG) at 8 weeks, and the eyeballs were examined. The histological changes after resection are evaluated by pathology.

Result: The refractive power of the eyes of the three groups of guinea pigs is positively correlated with the axial length. 20Hz sine wave stroboscopic group and 20Hz square wave refractive power (-0.75±0.79) D and (-1.50±0.91) D myopia changes (P0.05), compared with the control group, 20Hz sine wave and 20 Hz at week 8 The F-ERG latency of the square wave stroboscope group was prolonged by 3.8 and 7.9 seconds, respectively, and there was no obvious histological difference between the three pathological groups.

Conclusion: Continuous exposure to high frequency square wave and sine wave stroboscope flash will affect the face up to a certain extent.
