Epidemiological characteristics of patients with cerebral palsy

Cerebral palsy refers to a syndrome caused mainly by postural and motor dysfunction caused by non-progressive brain injury. This is a common central neuropathy syndrome in children. The lesions are in the brain and occur in the limbs. It is usually accompanied by mental retardation, epilepsy, abnormal behavior, mental disorders, visual impairment, hearing impairment and speech impairment. Cerebral palsy is one of the most common causes of children’s disability. The average birth rate per 1,000 newborns is 2-3. A recent Turkish study of children between the ages of 2 and 16 found that the average birth rate per 1,000 children with cerebral palsy is The number is 4.4,

The most common causes of cerebral palsy are premature birth, ischemia, hypoxemia, hemoglobin bilirubin and trauma. Advances in neonatal care have greatly reduced neonatal mortality, but the survival rate of high-risk preterm infants and low birth weight infants has increased, increasing the risk of cerebral palsy. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for the rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy. The purpose of rehabilitation of cerebral palsy is to minimize disability by enhancing children's motor control level, knowledge level, social participation and independence.

Therefore, Fatma Fidan, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Ildilim Medical College, Bayazut University, Turkey analyzed the demographic and clinical characteristics of children with cerebral palsy in eastern Turkey, and provided evidence for the prevention and early diagnosis of cerebral palsy. .. Has there been any article published in the English magazine "Journal of Treatment and Rehabilitation"?

The survey included patients diagnosed with cerebral palsy in the outpatient and inpatient clinics of the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department of Inonu University, Turkey. The age, gender, etiology, clinical classification, epidemiological characteristics and other problems related to cerebral palsy are analyzed.

Results A total of 51 patients participated in the study, with an average age of 51.05±36.06 months, including 51 girls and 79 boys. The most common risk factors are prenatal hemorrhage and fear of miscarriage, perinatal asphyxia, low birth weight and premature delivery, postpartum neonatal onset and elevated blood bilirubin. Among them, 24.6% of families married relatives. Among the clinical features, 45 participants had spastic paralysis (34.6%), 41 had spastic paralysis (31.5%), 15 had spastic paralysis (11.5%) and 14 had spastic paralysis Hemiplegia (10.8%). Yes. A mixture of 10 (7.7%) and 5 hypotonic/ataxia (3.8%).

The author pointed out that prenatal risk factors are the most important risk factors for cerebral palsy. Close tracking of risk factors during pregnancy and childbirth can reduce the incidence of neonatal cerebral palsy. More importantly, we need to reduce the marriage of close relatives of the Turkish people.
