Scientists in many countries/regions have discovered that all four known HIV strains come from chimpanzees and gorillas, which is why humans have fully identified all HIV strains. This is my first time. Currently, there are four known HIV strains: M, N, O and P. Each has a different source. Among them, the most widely distributed M and N have long been determined to originate from chimpanzees, but the rare O and P have never been able to determine their source.
Through the analysis of the genetic data of chimpanzees and gorillas in Cameroon and surrounding areas, they finally determined that O and P are gorillas in southwestern Cameroon. There are only two P-type cases in the world, while only 100,000 O-type cases are mainly in Central Africa and West Africa.
