Effects of maca extract on toxicity and immune organs in mice

Objective: To investigate the effects of maca extract on the toxicity and immune organs of mice.

Method: Give BALB/c mouse maca extract for 15 days, observe the toxic effect of maca on mice, weigh the thymus and spleen.

Results: The cumulative oral dose of mice within 24 h was 320 g/(kg·bw), and no toxic reactions were seen in the animals. The weight of thymus increased by 36.84%, 89.47%, and 107.89%, respectively, and the weight of spleen increased by 44.83%, 62.01%, 89.66%, respectively, after 16.0, 32.0, 64.0 g/(kg·bw) of maca extract was administered for 15 days. , The mouse carbon particle clearance index increased by 30.85%, 42.55%, 54.79%, and the serum hemolysin value increased by 11.64%, 20.03%, and 31.51% respectively. Compared with the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05~ 0.01).

Conclusion: Maca extract can increase the weight of immune organs and improve immune function, and has low toxicity.
