Animal experiment: the influence of air sac on the results of abdominal wall withdrawal reflex experiment

Purpose: To select suitable materials for the preparation of airbags for the abdominal wall withdrawal reflex experiment.

Methods: The diameters of different airbags under different pressure values were measured by digital vernier calipers and X-ray images; and the 3-point pain threshold was used as the criterion to test the pressure values corresponding to different airbags causing obvious visceral pain in rats .

Results: The diameter of the round latex balloon changes uniformly and gently with the increase in pressure value, and can meet the commonly used pressure range (20~80 mmHg) in the experiment. The threshold for causing visceral pain in rats is near the noxious stimulation value. Cause irreversible damage to the intestines of rats.

Conclusion: It is ideal to use round latex balloons to prepare air sacs in the abdominal wall withdrawal reflex experiment.
