Effect of selenium-enriched rice bran instead of organic selenium on growth performance and antioxidant function of experimental rabbits

Objective: To study the effect of selenium-enriched rice bran instead of organic selenium on growth performance and antioxidant function of young rabbits.

Method: Sixty 35-day-old weaned rabbits were randomly divided into ordinary rice bran group, organic selenium group, and selenium-enriched rice bran group, each with 20 rabbits, half male and female, and fed with ordinary rice bran feed, ordinary rice bran plus organic selenium feed, respectively. The selenium-enriched rice bran feed was fed for a total of 30 days, and the daily feed consumption was recorded. Weigh the experimental rabbits on the 0th, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th and 30th days of the experiment, and calculate the feed-to-weight ratio of each group of experimental rabbits. After the feeding, the serum of each group of experimental rabbits was collected to test the blood glucose, uric acid, total protein, albumin, globulin content, albumin/globulin ratio and serum glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity. Superoxide dismutase activity (SOD), catalase (CAT) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) content; the liver, spleen and kidney of each group of experimental rabbits were collected and weighed, and the internal organ index of each group was calculated, and Detect kidney selenium content.

Results: There was no significant difference between the organic selenium group and the selenium-enriched rice bran group in daily weight gain, feed-to-weight ratio, organ index, kidney selenium content and the above blood biochemical indicators compared with the ordinary rice bran group (P>0.05), but The activities of GSH-Px and SOD in the selenium-enriched rice bran group and the activities of GSH-Px and CAT in the organic selenium group were significantly higher than those in the ordinary rice bran group (P<0.05), and the MDA content of the two groups was significantly lower than that in the ordinary rice bran group ( P<0.05), and the antioxidant capacity of the selenium-enriched rice bran group and the organic selenium group is equivalent.

Conclusion: The selenium-enriched rice bran has the same promotion effect on the growth performance and antioxidant function of the young rabbits as organic selenium, and can replace the organic selenium as the source of feed selenium for the young rabbits.
