Effect of Naoshuantong Capsule on Blood Lipid Level in Mice with Atherosclerosis

Objective To observe the effect of Naoshuantong Capsule on blood lipid levels in atherosclerotic mice, and to explore the mechanism of Naoshuantong Capsule in treating stroke.

Method 6-week-old male ApoE-/- mice were used high-fat diet to establish atherosclerosis model. After successful modeling, they were randomly divided into model group, Naoshuantong capsule low-dose group, and Naoshuantong capsule high-dose group. The low-dose group was given Naoshuantong capsules 0.5g/kg body weight, the high-dose group was given Naoshuantong capsules 1.0g/kg body weight, and the control group was given the same amount of distilled water. After 12 weeks of continuous administration, blood was taken from the abdominal aorta and the serum was separated. Enzyme-coupled colorimetric method for the determination of serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol lipoprotein-cholesterol, HDL-C) levels.

Results Compared with the model group, both the Naoshuantong Capsule low-dose group and the high-dose group significantly reduced the serum TC, TG and LDL-C content, but had no effect on the HDL-C content.

Conclusion Naoshuantong Capsules can regulate blood lipid levels, and its mechanism of treatment of stroke is probably related to this approach.
