Objective: To compare the timeliness, success rate and mortality of rats with middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) models prepared by common carotid artery puncture method and traditional suture method.
Method: 32 male rats were randomly divided into carotid artery puncture group and traditional suture method group. The suture plug was inserted from the common carotid artery to embolize the middle cerebral artery. The Bederson neurological function scoring standard was used to score the neurological function at 24 h after surgery, and the 24 h success rate and mortality rate were counted. Results: The insertion time, success rate, and mortality of the rat MCAO model prepared by the common carotid artery puncture method and the traditional surgical method were (82.3±17.4) s and (164.6±22.0) s, respectively. The difference was significant (P< 0.01); 87.5% and 68.75%, the difference is not significant (p>0.05); 6.25% and 18.75%, the difference is not significant (P>0.05).
Conclusion: The preparation of the rat middle cerebral artery embolization model by the common carotid artery puncture method is simple, time-saving, less traumatic, and highly maneuverable.
