Based on the systematic review of pathomorphology to explore the difference between porcine coronary artery balloon injury and atherosclerosis

Objective To analyze the histomorphological characteristics of porcine coronary artery balloon injury lesions through a systematic review, and compare with the histomorphology of human atherosclerotic plaque, so as to provide basis for the rational application of porcine AS model.

Methods The databases of CNKI, Wanfang, Weipu, PubMed and Web of Science were searched to screen the relevant studies of the miniature pig model of coronary artery injury caused by the balloon injury method; the pathological images of the AS plaques in the article were extracted, and the AS plaques spontaneously formed with humans were analyzed. The similarities and differences. Results A total of 38 documents meeting the requirements were included; morphological analysis showed that the lesions constructed by the balloon injury method can often form severe intimal hyperplasia in a short period of time, resulting in lumen stenosis, and the main components of the hyperplastic intima are smooth muscle cells and proteoglycans. The uniform mixing of the inner elastic plate is common, and the fiber cap and the lipid core are rare; this pathological feature is significantly different from the pathological feature of atherosclerosis "the fiber cap covers the lipid core".

Conclusion There is a morphological difference between intimal hyperplasia caused by balloon injury and AS. As an AS model, it should be used with caution in lipid mechanism research and preclinical evaluation.
