Comparison of behavioral characteristics of SHR, WKY rats and SD rats with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder models

Objective: To compare the behavioral characteristics of SHR, WKY, and SD rats, and to explore an ideal control model for the study of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in SHR rats.

Method: The open field experiment was used to count the movement distance, movement speed, number of grids and grooming times to evaluate the autonomous movement of SHR, WKY, and SD rats; the water maze experiment was used to detect the learning and memory ability of the three groups of rats.

Results: The results of the open field experiment showed that the total exercise volume, average exercise speed and the number of passes of SHR rats were significantly higher than those of WKY and SD rats (P<0.01); compared with WKY rats, the movement distance of SD rats Significantly higher than the WKY group (P<0.01), and its movement speed and number of grids were slightly higher than that of the WKY group (P<0.05); in the water maze concealed platform experiment, SD rats had a longer latency than SHR rats ( P<0.05). In the incubation period, SD rats have longer exercise distances than SHR rats on the 1, 3, and 4 days of training (P<0.05 or P<0.01); compared with WKY group, SD is greater Compared with WKY, the rats' incubation period and the movement distance during the incubation period decreased to different degrees (P<0.05 or P<0.01). In the space exploration stage, the number of times of traversing the platform, the target quadrant exercise time, and the distance ratio of SD rats were reduced compared with SHR rats (P<0.05), but increased to different degrees compared with WKY rats (P<0.05) Or P<0.01).

Conclusion: The behavioral differences between WKY rats and SHR rats are too large, and there are certain shortcomings in the comparison between the two. The addition of SD rats as a control group of SHR rats can improve the comparability of behavioral characteristics of SHR rats and is more objective It reflects the behavioral characteristics of SHR rats.
