How to establish a mouse model of preeclampsia in rats? -【Animal Modeling】

Pre-eclampsia (pre-eclampsia, PE) is a unique disease during pregnancy and is one of the main causes of morbidity and death in pregnant women and perinatal infants. The cause is unknown, and abortion is now considered an effective treatment. With the progress of society, human needs for pregnancy safety are gradually increasing. Establishing an ideal animal model of PE can undoubtedly provide a better method for studying its etiology and pathogenesis, so as to better prevent or delay disease progression and reduce maternal and infant mortality.

Big mice and mice are widely used in clinical animal research of major diseases due to their economy, accessibility, high survival rate and short pregnancy cycle. Referring to domestic and foreign literature, the PE models of mice and rats are summarized as models of reduced uterine blood flow, excessive inflammatory immune activation, damage to vascular endothelial cells, excessive blood coagulation, and genetic recombination.
