Diabetes (diabetes, DM) has become a worldwide pandemic, and the incidence is increasing year by year. In order to further study the causes of DM and formulate more effective prevention and treatment plans, researchers need a stable and reproducible animal model similar to human diseases. Streptozotocin (STZ) has been used to induce DM for half a century and is currently the most widely used animal inducer of DM in basic research.
This article briefly reviews the key influencing factors in the preparation of DM rat model STZ, and integrates the findings and experiences of related publications to provide some reference materials for the preparation of STZ-induced DM rats.
