How is kidney regeneration achieved in the nephrectomy rat model? -【Animal Modeling】

Kidney disease is a major and unresolved health problem in the world. The irreversibility of the development of kidney disease has always plagued patients, doctors and researchers. Researchers from Wenzhou Medical University used allogeneic kidney decellularized biological scaffolds to successfully induce kidney regeneration in a rat model of partial nephrectomy.

According to statistics, there are as many as 120 million people with kidney disease in my country. International related research fields once generally believed that vertebrates other than zebrafish could not achieve kidney regeneration in the body. In the rat partial nephrectomy model, only weak repairing regeneration of renal tubules can be detected at the resection stump, but glomerular regeneration cannot be detected, and the function is permanent loss. Researchers in the field of renal regeneration all regard the realization of glomerular regeneration and even functional recovery as the ultimate goal of research.

The research team of Wenzhou Medical University successfully prepared the kidney decellularized biological scaffold in the early stage. The rat kidney cells were completely removed, only the three-dimensional extracellular matrix structure of the kidney was retained, and the acellular biological scaffold was transplanted to partially nephrectomy rats. On the kidney, the rat's residual kidney can be regenerated. Postoperatively, the growth of the experimental kidney was observed in gross and B-ultrasound. Radionuclide detected that the glomerular filtration rate of the experimental kidney gradually increased after the operation, and a large number of precursor cells were detected in the experimental kidney by immunological methods. And showed a regular distribution.

Associate Professor Mei Jin, Executive Director of the Institute of Biological Stent Transplantation and Immunity of Wenzhou Medical University, said that the research results were funded by the Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation of China, marking a major breakthrough in the related research fields of the decellularized biological scaffold research team of Wenzhou Medical University , The future will open up an important path for clinical treatment and scientific research of patients with kidney disease.
