【Animal Modeling】-Why use optogenetic technology to prepare animal models of nervous system diseases?

Parkinson's disease, depression, anxiety, Alzheimer's disease and other neuropsychiatric diseases seriously endanger human health and cause a heavy burden on medical treatment. However, scientists still know very little about the onset and treatment of this disease. The technology of precise control of neural circuits is of great help to in-depth understanding of such diseases. Optogenetics is a research method that goes deep to the level of brain neural circuits, and is used to explore the basis of brain neural circuits in the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric diseases. This is a height that cannot be achieved by conventional research methods.

In recent years, optogenetics technology has developed rapidly and is widely used to precisely regulate isolated brain slices and neuronal activity in awake animals. We will briefly discuss the application of optogenetic techniques in the basic analysis of neural circuits in various animal neuropsychiatric models (including fear, anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and other diseases).
