【Animal Modeling】-How to establish an animal model of acute mechanical spinal cord injury?

Acute spinal cord injury is a central nervous system injury with a high disability rate and serious consequences, which brings a heavy burden to individuals, families and society. There is still no effective method to treat spinal cord injury, but different treatment methods including stem cells, drugs, and tissue engineering have been applied in a variety of animal models and have achieved certain results. Whether the injury mechanism, effectiveness and completeness of animal models can simulate clinical findings, similar problems still exist.

This article explains the application of several common acute mechanical spinal cord injury animal models and their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the selection of common animal types and injury segments, aiming to provide a reference for future selection of more effective animal models.
