　　Primary headache is one of the diseases with a high disability rate, which mostly occurs in young and middle-aged people. While the patients are suffering, they also bring a heavy burden to the society, but the cause is unknown. Establishing a reliable animal model of primary headache will help to study the cause of primary headache and develop preventive and therapeutic drugs.

　　This article reviews the research progress and evaluation methods of the existing primary headache animal models from the principles and methods of model establishment, the scope of application, and the evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of each model.
