　　Diabetes has become a worldwide epidemic, and its incidence is increasing year by year. In order to further study the causes of DM and formulate more effective prevention and treatment programs, researchers need a stable and reproducible animal model similar to human diseases. Streptozotocin (STZ) has been used to induce DM for half a century and is currently the most widely used animal inducer of DM in basic research.

　　This article briefly reviews the key influencing factors in the preparation of DM rat model STZ, summarizes the findings and experiences of related publications, and provides some suggestions for future STZ-induced DM rat models, which I will put forward.
