【Animal Modeling】-The common carotid artery puncture method to prepare the middle cerebral artery embolism model in rats

Objective: To compare the timeliness, success rate and mortality of the rat middle cerebral artery embolization model established by common carotid artery puncture and conventional suture.

Method: 32 male rats were randomly divided into the common carotid artery puncture group and the conventional suture group, and the middle cerebral artery was embolized by inserting suture from the common carotid artery. Using the Bederson neurological function scoring standard, the neurological function was scored 24 hours after the operation to calculate the 24-hour success rate and mortality rate.

Results: The time, success rate and mortality of the MCAO model of the rat MCAO model prepared by the common carotid artery puncture method and the conventional surgical method were (82.3±17.4) seconds and (164.6±22.0) seconds, respectively, and the difference was significant. (P0.05); 6.25~18.75? The difference is not significant (P→0.05).

Conclusion: The preparation of rat middle cerebral artery embolization model by common carotid artery puncture is simple, time-saving, less traumatic, and highly mobile.
