Objective: To establish a new type of SD rat tibial distraction osteogenesis model.
Methods: Forty male SD rats were osteotomy of the right tibia and shortened by 4 mm. They were fixed with a circular distraction external fixator designed by the self-research. During the fracture repair period, the tibia height was restored with a distraction external fixator, and passed after the operation. Gross observation, imaging observation and histomorphological methods observe the healing and recovery of the osteotomy site.
Result: The external fixator is stable and effective after the operation, and has no obvious effect on the functional activities of the rats. The tibia is restored in height and bony healing.
Conclusion: The rat tibia distraction osteogenesis model established in the experiment is reliable, practical and repeatable.
