Purpose: To determine and analyze the main reproductive traits of six commonly used SPF-class mice (SD rats, C57BL/6 mice, BALB/c mice, NIH mice, KM mice, ICR mice) preserved in our center.
Method: Inbred mice are mated with all siblings, and rats and mice in a closed group are mated in cycles. The average number of litters, the average number of litters and the average number of weaning of the first to 4th litters of these 6 strains of rats and mice were determined, and the weaning rate was calculated. At the same time, determine the age at first delivery, age at first delivery, interval between first delivery and fetal-fetal interval.
Result: The average litter size of inbred mice is 6-7. The reproduction data of the first three fetuses remained basically stable, and the data of the fourth fetus was significantly lower than that of the third fetus (P<0.05). The weaning rate of BALB/c mice is 98%~99%, and that of C57BL/6 mice is 96%~98%. The average litter size of the closed group experimental animals can reach 12-14. The average litter size of the second to third litters is significantly higher than that of the first litter (P<0.05), but the fourth litter is significantly lower than the third litter (P<0.05). The weaning rate of NIH, KM and ICR mice was maintained at 98%~99%; the weaning rate of SD rats was slightly lower (95%~97%). The age of initial mating of mice is between 70 d and 80 d, and that of rats is 109 d; the age and interval of initial delivery of closed group mice are lower than that of inbred mice, and the age of initial delivery of rats The interval between birth and first delivery is 136.3 d and 27.7 d, respectively; the fetal interval of inbred mice is between 34 d and 40 d, closed group mice are between 25.5 d and 28.7 d, and rats are between 32.8 d and 33.8 d. between.
Conclusion: The six commonly used rats and mice preserved in this center have higher reproductive performance. The obtained reproductive performance parameters provide basis and basic data for the commercial production of experimental rats and mice in South China and the establishment of a rodent laboratory animal resource database.
