[Animal Modeling]-Genetic Analysis of Canadian SPF Large White Pigs and Landrace Pigs

Objective: To study the genetic background of SPF large white pigs and Landrace pigs imported from Canada by Harbin Veterinary Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Method: The experiment uses 19 pairs of microsatellite primers to perform population genetic analysis on this population.

Result: 19 loci were detected in the Large White pig herd with 84 alleles, and in the Landrace pig herd with 89 alleles. The average polymorphic information content and average heterozygosity of large white pigs were 0.5271 and 0.5877, respectively; the average polymorphic information content and average heterozygosity of Landrace pigs were 0.5652 and 0.6066, respectively. Because the size and content of alleles in S0155, S0143, S0178, Sw857 and Sw936 are significantly different (P<0.01), they can be used as candidate sites for identification of Large White and Landrace pigs. The results of F-statistics and migration rate analysis show that the differentiation within the population is small and the genetic structure is stable.

Conclusion: The genetic structure of imported SPF purebred large white pigs and Landrace pigs is more stable than some domestic purebred large white pigs and Landrace pigs, and can be used as experimental animal models in animal medicine and scientific research.
