【Animal Modeling】-Lewis rats’ kidney-yang deficiency constitution and the imbalance of HPA axis function

Objective: To study the constitution of the kidney-yang deficiency and the function of HPA axis in Lewis rats.

Methods: The hypodermic injection of hydrocortisone and the HPA method of adrenal injury were used to establish a kidney-yang deficiency model in rats. At the same time, Lewis rats were compared with two experimental kidney-yang deficiency models, and general signs, behaviors, and neuroendocrine functions were used. And other tests and methods to evaluate the degree of kidney yang deficiency in Lewis rats.

Results: Compared with normal Wistar rats, the weight of Lewis rats was significantly heavier than Wistar rats of the same age, but the body temperature, urine output and holding power were significantly lower than Wistar rats (P<0.01), and the memory ability of Lewis rats There is a downward trend. The liver index, kidney index and adrenal index of Lewis rats are significantly reduced (P<0.01). Alcohol (Cort) and urine 17-hydroxycorticosteroid (17OHCS) were significantly reduced (P<0.01).

Conclusion: The adrenal cortex function of Lewis rats is reduced due to genetic inheritance. Lewis rats have a congenital kidney-yang deficiency constitution-borderline kidney-yang deficiency syndrome or early kidney-yang deficiency syndrome.
