【Animal Modeling】-The influence of the shape of the behavior box on the experimental results of new object recognition in mice

Objective To study the application effect of new object recognition experiment in the evaluation of learning and memory ability of ICR mice.

Method 40 ICR mice, half male and half male, were randomly divided into 4 groups, square female group (square behavior box female mouse group), square male group, round female group and round male group. According to the same experimental procedure of new object recognition, the exploration time of each group of mice was measured.

Results There was no significant difference between the square female group and the square male group, and the round female group and the round male group. There was no significant difference in the exploration time and the resolution ratio of new objects (P>0.05). Compared with the square group (square female group + square male group) and the round group (round female group + round male group), there was no significant difference in the resolution ratio of new objects (P>0.05), but the total exploration time of the round group was significantly longer than Square group (P<0.01).

Conclusion When conducting a new object recognition experiment, gender does not affect the evaluation of the learning and memory ability of mice. Choosing a circular behavior box for the experiment can better evaluate the learning and memory ability of mice.
