Objective: To study the effect of Maiqi Jiangtang Pills on blood sugar in ob/ob mice.
Methods: 8-week-old male ob/ob mice were randomly divided into model group, Maiqi Jiangtang pill high, medium and low dose (8g/kg, 4g/kg, 2g/kg) group and metformin (250mg/kg) group, Each administration group was given the corresponding dose of drugs by gavage, once a day, for 10 consecutive weeks. The normal control group C57BL/6J mice and the model control group ob/ob mice of the same age were given an equal volume of solvent. Each group was tested. Mean daily food intake and body weight, fasting blood glucose, serum insulin levels and pancreatic pathological changes in mice.
Results: Maiqi Jiangtang Pills could significantly reduce the fasting blood glucose of ob/ob mice at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks and 10 weeks (P<0.05, P<0.01). Food intake and body weight had no significant effect, but it could reduce the degree of pancreatic islet cell lesions in ob/ob mice and increase fasting serum insulin levels in ob/ob mice (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Maiqi Jiangtang Pills can reduce blood sugar in ob/ob mice, which may be related to reducing pancreatic pathological damage and promoting insulin secretion.
