OBJECTIVE: To optimize the appropriate materials for the preparation of balloons for abdominal wall withdrawal reflex experiments.
Methods: The diameters of different airbags under different pressure values were measured by digital vernier calipers and X-ray images respectively; and the 3-point pain threshold was used as the judgment standard to test the corresponding pressure values when different airbags caused obvious visceral pain in rats .
Results: The diameter of the round latex balloon changed uniformly and gently with the increase of the pressure value, and could meet the pressure range (20-80 mmHg) commonly used in experiments. Causes irreversible damage to the rat intestine.
Conclusion: It is ideal to use a round latex balloon to prepare a balloon in the abdominal wall withdrawal reflex experiment.
