【Animal modeling】-Biological characteristics of type 2 diabetes db/db mice

Objective: To observe the biological characteristics of db/db mice, and to provide the basis for the experimental research and application of this strain of animals.

Methods: BKS.Cg-Dock7m+/+Leprdb/JNju mice and wild-type mice with spontaneous type 2 diabetes were used to measure fasting blood glucose at 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24 weeks of age. Body weight was measured at 20 and 24 weeks of age, serum insulin, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were measured at 24 weeks of age, organ mass and liver coefficient were detected, and histopathological observation was performed.

Results: The fasting blood glucose value and body weight of db/db mice always maintained high levels; serum insulin, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as liver and kidney mass were significantly higher than those of wild-type mice; 24-week-old There were obvious pathological changes in the pancreas and liver of db/db mice.

Conclusion: db/db mice have obvious characteristics of type 2 diabetes such as hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and hyperinsulinemia, and are ideal animal models for experimental research on type 2 diabetes.
