Objective: To study the pathological characteristics of giant spontaneous tumors in Wistar and GK rats.
Methods: The growth and survival status of Wistar and GK rats with giant spontaneous tumors were observed, the tumors were surgically removed, and their pathological characteristics were studied by immunohistochemical staining.
Results: The weights of the two giant spontaneous tumors were 502 g and 119 g, respectively, which were 64% and 24% of the rat body weight, respectively. The tumor surface had a complete capsule and had a clear boundary with the normal tissue. No tumor containing blood vessels was found. Pedicle-like structure. Pathological examination results showed that it was determined to be benign fibroma.
Conclusion: Spontaneous giant tumors in rats are benign fibroid tumors, which have no significant effect on the survival status except that the tumor is too large to affect the activities of rats.
