Objective To simulate the detection of planktonic aerosols produced by rhesus monkeys during rearing and washing with indicator microorganisms in an animal biosafety level 3 (ABSL-3) laboratory.
Methods The Sartorius Airport MD 8 portable plankton sampler was used to sample and detect the ground excreta and the filter basket of the ABSL-3 laboratory monkey cage. Detection methods include: aerosol live cell detection and planktonic bacteria PCR detection.
Results (1) Under the static state,<5 30="" bacteria="" in="" the="" rearing="" bacterial="" culture="" count="" on="" ground="" reached="" about="">300/dish, accompanied by >10/dish yeast growth; (3) Comparative test The results showed that the growth of bacteria and yeast was significantly reduced when strictly following the cleaning SOP compared with those not following the SOP, and no bacterial DNA was detected on the absorbent pad.
Conclusion Strict implementation of SOP for rhesus monkey rearing and cleaning in ABSL-3 laboratory can effectively control the risk of microbial contamination.
