【Animal modeling】-Preliminary study on the tolerance of naked mole rat heart to 60Coγ-ray radiation

Objective To observe and analyze the changes of the morphological structure and tissue biochemical indexes of naked mole rat hearts after 60Coγ-ray irradiation, and to preliminarily study the characteristics of naked mole rat hearts in terms of 60Coγ-ray radiation tolerance.

Methods Naked mole-rats were irradiated with 10 Gy 60Co γ rays all over the body. The hearts of naked mole-rats were collected at 7d and 14d after irradiation, and paraffin sections were made. After HE staining, the microstructure of the heart was observed under a light microscope. Tissue biochemical detection kits were used to detect cardiac tissue malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG).

Results Microscopic examination showed that there were no obvious atrophy, edema, necrosis and fibrosis in the heart tissue of naked mole rats after irradiation. Biochemical detection showed that the content of MDA in the heart tissue increased significantly after irradiation (P<0.01), and the content of T-AOC, GSH and GSSG showed a time-dependent decreasing trend (all P<0.05).

Conclusion The naked mole rat heart has a certain degree of tolerance to 60Coγ-rays, but the specific tolerance mechanism is not yet clear.
