Objective: The purpose of the experiment was to study the effect of adding L-arginine to corn agar medium on the pupation time, eclosion time, eclosion rate and male-female ratio of Drosophila melanogaster.
Methods: The experiment was divided into 2 groups, namely the control group and the experimental group, the control group was the basal medium, the experimental group was added with 1% L-arginine in the basal medium, and the female and male 1:1 in each tube were put into the basal medium. Seven pairs of fruit flies, 12 replicates in each group, were inoculated 72 h after the parents were removed, and the pupation time, eclosion time, number of eclosion and the number of males and females in each group were counted.
RESULTS: With the addition of 1% L-arginine to the medium, the number of pupation and eclosion of wild-type Drosophila melanogaster increased by 313.64% and 303.53% ( P<0.01), 157.09%, 182.76% (P<0.01) and 233.33%, 239.03% (P<0.01), after adding 1% L-arginine, the pupation time of white eyes and wild-type flies was longer than that of the control group 2d in advance.
Conclusion: Under the experimental conditions, 1% L-arginine can improve the fertility of laboratory Drosophila, and it can be applied to the propagation of laboratory Drosophila.
