Objective: To provide a simple and easy anesthesia scheme for the successful establishment of rhesus monkey spinal cord injury model and other long-term surgical operations in rhesus monkeys.
METHODS: Ten male adult rhesus monkeys were selected and anesthetized with propofol intravenous induction and isoflurane inhalation maintenance. The anesthesia induction time, anesthesia maintenance time and anesthesia recovery time were recorded. Continuous monitoring of blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiratory rate (RR), heart rate (HR), and evaluation of the feasibility and effectiveness of the anesthesia program through their analysis.
RESULTS: All 10 rhesus monkeys completed the experiment according to the experimental plan. The induction time of anesthesia was short, the onset of effect was fast, the vital signs were stable during anesthesia, the sedation, analgesia and muscle relaxation were satisfactory, and the postoperative recovery was rapid and complete, and no anesthesia complications occurred.
Conclusion: Propofol and isoflurane combined anesthesia is a safe and effective long-term anesthesia for rhesus monkeys.
