Objective: To reveal the inheritance pattern of black-eyed trait in white-haired black-eyed rabbits.
Methods: The white-haired black-eyed rabbit with black-eyed mutation trait was selected and crossed with its background strain, Japanese white rabbit, to construct six two-generation hybrid families. Observation and statistics of individual iris color traits of F1 and F2 generations produced by crossing, and used segregation analysis commonly used in genetic mathematical statistics to explore the inheritance pattern.
Results: The χ2 test showed that the observed value of the iris color distribution obtained by the hybridization experiment was not significantly different from the expected value of the autosomal single-gene dominant inheritance pattern (P>0.05), but was different from the expected value of the autosomal recessive inheritance and sex-linked inheritance pattern. Significant (P<0.05).
Conclusion: The black-eyed mutation of the white-haired black-eyed rabbit is a dominant trait caused by the mutation of a single gene on the autosomal chromosome.
