【Animal Modeling】-Systematic evaluation of the effects of placental differentially expressed proteins on the growth and development of placenta in a rat model of gestational diabetes mellitus

  Objective To systematically evaluate the effect of placental differentially expressed proteins on the growth and development of placenta in a rat model of gestational diabetes mellitus.

  Methods PubMed, Web of Science, EMBase, Cochrane Library, Ovid/LWW, Scopus, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP and China Biomedical Literature Database were searched by computer, and relevant references were manually searched. The search time was until September 2020. On March 30; the included literatures were screened, data extracted, quality evaluated and analyzed by 2 researchers independently.

  Results A total of 16 articles were included; it was shown that: (1) Differentially expressed proteins in the placenta affected the proliferation and apoptosis of placental trophoblast cells in GDM rats, interfered with placental angiogenesis, increased vascular permeability, enhanced placental oxidative stress and inflammatory response, and caused GDM Abnormal growth and development of the rat placenta; (2) The differentially expressed proteins in the placenta are mainly located in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of the spongy trophoblast, labyrinth trophoblast, giant cell and fetal endothelial cells of the placenta of GDM rats; (3) The placenta of GDM rats developed pathological changes such as increased trophoblast area, decreased blood vessel density and disordered tissue structure.

  Conclusion The differential expression of placental proteins may cause abnormal placental growth and development in GDM rats by changing the structure and function of the placenta, thereby promoting or aggravating the occurrence of GDM and its complications. Certain limitations still need to be further verified by a large number of high-quality studies.
