【Animal modeling】-Exploration of the effect of pomegranate tonic syrup on anemia in Wistar rats

Objective To investigate the effect of pomegranate tonic syrup on anemia in Wistar rats.

Methods The blood deficiency model was established by feeding Wistar rats with low iron diet supplemented with a small amount of tail vein bloodletting. After successful modeling, the rats were randomly divided into model group, high-dose, medium-dose and low-dose groups of pomegranate nourishing plasma and positive drug group, and blank control group was set up, and each group was given corresponding intervention measures. Blood was collected on the 10th and 20th days to determine the blood routine; on the 20th day, the rats were sacrificed, blood and bone marrow were collected, the content of erythropoietin (EPO) in serum was measured, and the number of nucleated cells in the bone marrow and the content of nucleated cells in the bone marrow were detected. Nucleic acid and protein expression of stem cell factor (SCF), granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF).

Results Compared with the model group, the clinical symptoms of each pomegranate tonic plasma group were relieved, the mortality rate was reduced, the peripheral blood cells increased, and the serum EPO content decreased. Compared with the model group, the number of bone marrow nucleated cells in the middle dose group increased, and the nucleic acid and protein expression levels of SCF and GM-CSF in the nucleated cells increased.

Conclusion Pomegranate tonic syrup has obvious relieving effect on anemia in Wistar rats.
