Objective To study the effect of western diet and standard diet on hematology and pathology of apolipoprotein E knockout mice (ApoE-/-).
Methods Three-month-old ApoE-/- mice were fed with Western dietary chow and standard chow, and peripheral blood and aortic arches of mice were collected at 3, 4, and 5 months of feeding. The blood lipid levels were detected by an automatic blood analyzer, and the formation of atherosclerotic plaques was observed by sectioning and staining.
Results In terms of blood lipids, the serum total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) of mice fed with Western diet and standard diet were significantly higher than those of control group C57 mice. High, except for HDL-C in mice fed for 4 months, other blood lipid indexes in the western diet group were significantly higher than those in the standard diet group; in the pathological section and staining of the aortic arch, at the same age, the western diet group Aortic plaques were evident in mice and the incidence of AS was significantly increased.
Conclusions ApoE-/- mice can be induced to show AS disease by both Western dietary feed and standard feed, and the induction effect of Western dietary feed is more obvious.
