Objective To provide a multifunctional animal behavioral experimental system based on an open source sharing protocol, which can be used for conditioned fear, active avoidance and other behavioral observation, training and testing.
Method The system consists of experimental box, camera, stimulation circuit and control software, which can realize the recording and quantitative analysis of various experimental animal behaviors under unattended conditions.
Result After the system was established in two universities, it tested common animal behavioral experiments including conditioned fear and active avoidance, and made a statistical analysis of the experimental results. The experimental data show that the conditioned fear behavior and active avoidance behavior based on Sprague Dawley rats can be stably trained in this system.
Conclusion An open source multifunctional animal behavioral experimental system was successfully developed. Because the overall design of the system is completely open source from hardware to software, and has the characteristics of easy use and scalability, it is conducive to the widespread promotion of the system, lowers the threshold for experimental access, and benefits all animal experimenters.
