Objective: To observe the effect of calcium phosphate cement (CPC) and lithium chloride combined calcium phosphate cement (Li/CPC) on fracture healing in SD rats.
Methods: Twenty 6-month-old female SD rats were selected, and Li/CPC experimental group (n=10) and CPC control group (n=10) were set up, and bilateral tibial bone defect filling was performed respectively, 1 and 2 months after operation. Five rats in each group were sacrificed, and tibia specimens were taken for micro-CT (Micro-CT) detection and HE staining of histological sections for comparative analysis.
RESULTS: Micro-CT scans showed that the Li/CPC group had better bone defect repair effect than the CPC group. The Li/CPC group had a higher volume fraction of new bone around the material (BV/TV) than the CPC group, and the trabecular separation degree (Tb.Sp) was higher in the Li/CPC group than in the CPC group ) was smaller, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Histological HE staining showed that fibrous callus and osteoid callus appeared earlier in the Li/CPC group, and the number was larger, and the quality of bone healing was significantly higher than that in the CPC group. .
Conclusion: Li/CPC has good osteoconductivity and can significantly promote bone defect repair.
