【Animal modeling】-Pathological observation of renal artery embolism by microsphere embolization agent in Beagle dogs

Objective: To establish a model of canine renal artery embolization with microsphere embolization agent, and to evaluate the effect of unilateral renal artery embolization and local tissue observation.

Methods: The experimental animals were 8 beagle dogs, and the experiment was divided into groups immediately after embolization, 4 weeks, 12 weeks, and 26 weeks, with 2 animals in each group. First of all, the left renal artery was embolized with microsphere embolization agent, and the changes after renal embolization were re-examined by renal arteriography and DSA immediately, 4 weeks, 12 weeks, and 26 weeks after embolization. .

Results: Gross pathological observation: compared with the contralateral kidney, the size of the embolized kidney gradually became smaller at 4 weeks, 12 weeks, and 26 weeks after embolization, and the degree of decrease became more obvious with the prolongation of embolization time; The color of the embolized kidney becomes light and uneven; the surface of the embolized kidney gradually becomes uneven and uneven, and the renal capsule is not easy to separate. Light microscopy findings: 4 weeks, 12 weeks, and 26 weeks after embolization; microsphere filling was still seen in the small branches of the arcuate artery, the arterial wall was hyalinized, and the periarterial fibrosis; Various degenerative changes can be seen in the tissue, such as atrophy, degeneration, and old renal infarction; in the later stage, various progressive changes in renal tissue can be seen, such as renal tubular regeneration, granulation tissue formation and remodeling and other pathological changes. However, almost normal glomerular and tubular structures were still seen in the embolized kidney.

Conclusion: Microsphere embolization agent has a clear embolization effect on unilateral renal artery in dogs.
