Objective To explore the curative effect of Shenling Baizhu Powder on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis model mice.
Methods Thirty-six male BALB/c mice (6-8 weeks old, 18-20 g) were selected and randomly divided into 6 groups with 6 mice in each group. Group A: high-dose group of Shenling Baizhu powder; group B: middle-dose group of Shenling Baizhu powder; group C: low-dose group of Shenling Baizhu powder; group D: sulfasalazine treatment group; group E: blank control group; Group F: Model group. The acute UC model was established by drinking 3.5% dextran sodium sulfate aqueous solution for 7 consecutive days, and the model was established by intragastric administration of different drug treatments. The therapeutic effect of Shenling Baizhu Powder on UC model mice was comprehensively evaluated by colorectal length, colonic mucosal injury ocular score, and colonic histopathological score.
Results Compared with group E, the DAI score of mice in group F was significantly increased, the colon was significantly shortened, and the visual score and histopathological score of colon mucosal injury were significantly increased. The improvement of the condition of mice in group B was better than that in groups A, C, and D. The colonic mucosal injury score showed that there was a significant difference between group F and group B (P<0.05). Shenling Baizhu Powder can improve the local damage of colon tissue in mice and relieve the symptoms of UC in mice.
Conclusion Shenling Baizhu Powder has a good therapeutic effect on UC model mice, and the curative effect of Shenling Baizhu Powder in middle dose is better than that of high dose and low dose of Shenling Baizhu Powder.
